RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Just two meets into the young season the Cal State Monterey Bay cross country team set numerous personal bests Saturday morning at the UC Riverside Invitational held at the UCR – Agg Course.
In all in the Open races for the men and women, the Otters combined for 21 personal bests.
"I am so stoked for my teams," head coach
Greg Rhines said. "They put down some amazing performances today in all the races MB competed in. I've never witnessed so many personal bests in one meet. I'm very happy for these student-athletes."
The women posted a runner-up finish and were just three points off the team title in the Open 5K section.
CSUMB was paced by junior
Daniela Munguia, who placed seventh overall with a big personal best time of 17:59.7. Senior
Ali Keith was 11th at 18:09.6.
Three straight personal bests ensued as sophomore
Rachel Hoops finished 20th with a time of 18:21.4 and junior
Cozette Wood was 24th at 18:25.8.
Angeline Gutierrez closely followed in 26th with a PR of 18:27.3 to round out the Otter scorers.
On the men's side, newcomer
Carson Lynch paced the squad in the 8K Open event with a 26:19.2. Sophomore
Franky Hernandez posted a 26:44.4 and junior
William Trowbridge crossed the line 27:16.8.
Junior
Captain Burnett (27:24) and senior
Carson Farrow (28:08.7) capped off the Otter scorers.
CSUMB will hit the trail next weekend to participate in the Pomona-Pitzer Invite on Saturday, Oct. 4. The meet will be held at PPXC Campus Course in Claremont, Calif.
