Why CSUMB?
I originally chose CSUMB for its SBS and Teaching programs. For the longest time I wanted to be a social sciences teacher but ended up changing my major once I was accepted. As I was on the teaching track, I chose a school that didn’t necessarily have a big name to it but was still recognized for its fantastic programs in the area I wanted to study. CSUMB had an established rugby program too and it being cost efficient was a big plus.
What's your major?
Cinematic Arts & Technology (BA), Business Administration (Minor)
Something uniqueÂ
I’ve lived in 4 countries, played rugby for 7 years, and played baseball for 12 years.
Words of Wisdom
Be Humble, Be Kind, Be Brave

Why CSUMB?
I chose to attend CSUMB because the team had an amazing family vibe to it which was really important to me. And CSUMB happens to be one of the best schools to pursue the sciences which I was really excited about.
What's your major?
Environmental science, technology and policyÂ
Something uniqueÂ
I love to hike around Fort Ord and Big Sur, just relax and read a good book.
Words of Wisdom
To live life to the fullest. It can be really tough especially when we are so busy but it is important to look for the good in things and follow them.

Why CSUMB?
I felt like the surrounding environment would help with my running. Also, something new which can be uncomfortable draws my attention because if you’re able to familiarize yourself then you know you’ve accomplished a lot.
What's your major?
Environmental science policy and technology
Community Involvement
I try to involve myself with as many people as possible. Whether it is simply talking to someone I don’t know or helping with SAAC or with my team.
Words of Wisdom
Staying in the now helps reduce stress whether it be something you’re worried about in the past or something you’re thinking about in the future. Focusing on the present is a present not a lot of people can experience. Staying in the NOW is a PRESENT for all.

Why CSUMB?
I came to CSUMB because of the coaching staff. It was important to find a coaching staff that truly supported me on and off the field while still being able to lead and nurture the skills and talent of the team. They gave me a sense of belonging on the team as they explained their drive and goals for the program.
What's your major?
Humanities & Communication
Community Involvement
I've always coached youth soccer in my hometown of Richmond and around the other areas that I've lived. I enjoy giving back to the community through my passion and have fun doing it.
Words of Wisdom
Keep putting in the work when it comes to the things you love. I truly believe that if you put in the work, good has to come out of it eventually. Even if it means practicing a bit of patience, you are bound to succeed if you put your mind to it.

Why CSUMB?
I came in and felt like I was at home when it came to the team. I was welcomed with open arms and had instant connections with the coaches, team, and incoming class. It has been amazing to get to play in the community I grew up in and spread my love of volleyball to young athletes in the community through coaching.
What's your major?
Business with an emphasis in marketing and minoring in Japanese.
Community Involvement
I am a campus captain of The Hidden Opponent, an advocacy group that raises awareness for student-athletes mental health and addresses the stigma within sports culture. I'm thankful to be a recipient of the Gen Giammanco scholarship, a local foundation that gives scholarships to college athletes from Salinas. And I coach for the local Central Coast Volleyball Club.Â
Words of Wisdom
As athletes we are constantly told to toughen up and push through our physical and mental injuries because that is what college sports is all about. In reality, it is important to take a step back and admit that we are struggling and know that it is ok to ask for help.

Why CSUMB?
I chose Cal State Monterey Bay because it reminded me a lot of my life back home in Australia, living right on the beach with good weather. The culture that Coach Williams has established around the team was also a major factor to me deciding to come to CSUMB.
What’s your major?
Right now I’m majoring in Business Administration and I haven’t chosen a concentration yet.
Â
Interesting facts
I grew up in Dublin, Ireland before moving to Australia when I was 11. I used to play state level cricket and hockey before I started playing basketball two years ago. This will be my 3rd season playing basketball.
Words of wisdom
Find something you love doing and focus on doing that everyday. Never get comfortable in what you are doing always keep pushing to be better.Â

Insights from Roberto Banegas in his words:
Why CSUMB?
This is my first semester here at CSUMB. It took a little convincing from my friends encouraging me to finish my degree while playing soccer for the school. It’s great going to a school which allows me to live with my family, study a subject I enjoy, and play a sport that I love.Â
What's your major?Â
I received an AA in Criminal Justice from MPC, and now I’m majoring in Social and Behavioral Science here at CSUMB.
Words of Wisdom:
To my peers, teammates, or future otters — follow your passion! I wouldn’t be where I am today without taking the plunge and following my passion for playing soccer.
