CSUMB 13, MERCYHURST 8 -- BOX SCORE
GENEVA, Ohio. -- No. 4 seed Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team began the Wester Water Polo Association Championship Tournament in style with a 13-8 win over No. 5 Mercyhurst on Friday afternoon at SPIRE Institute, earning a berth to Saturday's semifinal game against No. 1 UC San Diego.
After missing 5-meter penalty shot opportunities early on in the game, the Otters were able to rally and take a 5-2 lead at halftime. Mercyhurst put forth a comeback effort in the third quarter, but CSUMB equalled that with three scores of their own. A 5-goal fourth quarter put the Lakers away as the Otters cruised to a 13-8 win.
