IRVINE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay saw its title hopes end in a taut 7–3 loss to No. 1 seed Concordia University in the Western Water Polo Association Championship semifinals Saturday at the Woollett Aquatics Center.

The loss leaves the Otter record at 13–16 overall. They'll play for third place against Salem University Sunday.

The Otters tied the match at 1–1 midway through the third period thanks to an Abby Allan (Sanger HS) goal. But the Golden Eagles scored on their first possession of the second quarter, and CSUMB found itself playing catch up the rest of the afternoon.

Trailing 6–1 midway through the fourth, the Otters got two back on consecutive goals by Allan and Olivia Gutierrez (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS). That's as close as they would get as Amber Lewis potted a power playing goal on Concordia's next possession to put the game on ice.

In addition to her goal, Gutierrez passed two assists Saturday. Sophomore goalkeeper Marissa White (Union City/Mission San Jose HS) reached double-figure saves for the 13th time this season with 14 stops.

CSUMB will face Salem University in the WWPA Championship Tournament third-place match Sunday, with the first sprint scheduled for noon. The Otters will be looking to finish in third place or higher for the fourth time in the last 10 WWPA Tournaments.
