SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team welcomed Cal State East Bay to the Otter Tank for the first WWPA match of the season for both teams. The game proved to a 32 minute fight between conference rivals in the rain on Friday afternoon.
CSUMB jumped out to a 3-1 after the first quarter supported by two goals from
Morgan Tucker. The Otters extended their lead to 6-2 at halftime as stout defense by
Morgen Fain kept the CSUEB offense at bay.
The Pioneers outscored CSUMB 4-2 in the third quarter as the visitors attempted to climb back into it. With the Otters lead 9-6 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Pioneers four unanswered goals to take their first lead of the game at 10-9. CSUMB tied it up with 1:43 remaining in the game, but it was the Pioneers with the final goal, handing Monterey Bay a tough 10-11 loss.

SAVING MORGEN... Fain's 12 saves today marks the seventh time she has eclipsed double-digit saves. Not to mention, it is the fifth game in a row in which she has recorded double-digit numbers dating back to a 14-save game against University of Redlands on March 3, 2017.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay will continue it's brief run through WWPA competition as it will face 18th-ranked UC San Diego on Sunday at Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton, Calif. First sprint is set for 2:00 p.m.
