Women's Water Polo | January 28, 2017
SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team battled Santa Clara University on Saturday afternoon at the Otter Tank and showed that they were able to fight back.
The Otters kept it close in the first half, trailing 6-4. However, CSUMB allowed the Broncos to score 4 goals out of intermission, giving the Otters a 4-score deficit to try and overcome. CSUMB was able to get within one goal at a 10-9 score, but
Marisa Lovos' (Tualatin HS) two scores in the fourth quarter would prove not enough. Santa Clara scored to break the Otter momentum, holding on to beat CSUMB 11-9.
Morgan Fain (Mt. Whitney HS) had a solid defense game in the cage, recording 10 saves.
THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… After a Bronco goal made it 11-9 with 1:41 left. While CSUMB did attempt four more shots before the end of the game, none of them found the back of the net.
BACK-TO-BACK HATS... One Otter player has recorded a hat trick in each of CSUMB's first two games. Today,
Marisa Lovos followed up
Morgan Tucker's (Clairemont HS) 3-score game.
LEADERS OF THE RAFT… GOALS: Lovos -- 3;
ASSISTS: Adrianna Craft (Belmont, Mich.) -- 3; STEALS: Lucy Gates (Oceanside, Calif.) -- 4; SAVES: Fain -- 10
