CSUEB 12, CSUMB 7 -- BOX SCORE
HAYWARD, Calif. -- With two games remaining in the regular season, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team traveled to Cal State East Bay for the final WWPA match of the year. CSUMB found themselves down four goals early and despite a multi-goal effort from two Otters, CSUEB sunk CSUMB 12-7 at Pioneer Pool on Friday afternoon.
The Pioneers jumped out a 5–1 lead in the first quarter, but CSUMB showed signs of life in the second quarter. The Otters scored three times to the Pioneers two, including two goals from
Adrianna Craft (Rockford Senior HS). However, CSUMB trailed 4–7 at halftime.
Monterey Bay came out flat in the third quarter and was shutout by the East Bay defense allowing the hosts to take a 10–4 lead into the final eight minutes. CSUMB scored three times in the final quarter, including
Tatiana Veloso's (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) second goal of the game at the 3:12 mark to make the score 11–6. The Pioneers answered with two goals of their own to quiet any hopes of an Otter comeback en route to the 7–12 Otter loss.
Katrina Conen (Granite Bay High School), Maegan Murphy (Great Oak High School) and
Olivia Woolery (Clairemont High School) each contributed one goal in the loss while
Morgen Fain (Mt. Whitney High School) recorded seven saves. The Pioneers' Taylor Cross netted five scores in the game.
Monterey Bay will head to Davis, Calif. to battle the UC Davis Aggies on Sunday, April 17 for the 2016 regular season finalé. First sprint is set for noon.
