THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay water polo team began their six game road trip to Southern California on Friday at the Tina Finali Invitational against Cal Baptist and Cal Lutheran. CSUMB fought hard in both games, but was unable to find the win column losing to both the Lancers and the Regals.

CAL BAPTIST 16, CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY 9 -- BOX SCORE
In the Otters first game from Samuelson Aquatics Center, CSUMB battled Cal Baptist in what started out as a close game. CSUMB kept close, holding a 2–2 tie at the end of the first quarter. The Otters started the second quarter by breaking the tie on a goal by Katrina Conen (Granite Bay High School) to take a 3–2 lead. However, it would be short lived lead as CBU would go on a 6–2 run close out the half with an 8–5 lead.

Adrianna Craft (Belmont, Mich. / Rockford Senior HS) got one back to begin the third quarter as each team scored twice in the quarter.  Down 7–10, CSUMB would not be able to get over the hump, allowing the Lancers to score five times to the Otters two goals en route to a 9–16 loss to open the weekend.

Craft and Maggie Albers (Monterey High School) led the Otters by scoring twice in the loss. Both Kat Lloyd (Orinda, Calif. / Miramonte HS) and Macy Buhl (Lemoore High School) each contributed three saves in the split effort in the cage.

Game two of the day resulted in a defensive battle between the Otters and the Regals. CSUMB got off to a 2–0 start behind two goals from Tatiana Veloso (Rio de Janiero, Brazil), however CLU answered right back with two goals of their own to knot the game at 2–2 at the end of the half.

The second half seature and back and forth game with Veloso's third goal of the game leading to a 4–3 lead at the end of three quarters. Cal Lutheran toughed up the defense in the fourth qaurter and held the Otters scoreless while Kristi McGee scored her third goal of the game to tie it at 4–4.
