ERIE, Penn. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team finished up their trip East with games against St. Francis-Brooklyn and Siena College on Sunday in Erie, Penn. The Otters hung on in close games but earned a happy flight home with a 13-10 win over the Terriers and a 12-10 win over the Saints.
CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY 13, ST. FRANCIS–BROOKLYN 10After a 2–2 tie at the end of the first quarter, the Otters ignited their power boosters and took off on the Terriers. CSUMB scored three times in the second quarter and four times in the thrid and fourth qaurters to grab a 13–10 win over St. Francis.
The Terriers put pressure on CSUMB in the final quarter by scoring six times, but the 10–4 hole was too much to dig out of.Â
Adrianna Craft (Belmont, Mich. / Rockford Senior HS) led the offense for CSUMB scoring five times in the win.
Morgen Fain (Visalia, Calif. / Mt. Whitney High School) was solid in goal, recording a season high 12 saves in the winning effort.
CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY 12, SIENA 10Monterey Bay picked up where they left off against St. Francis by scoring twice in the first quarter to take a 2–1 early. The Otters then rallied off three straigh goals to grab a 6–1 lead halfway through the second quarter.
Tatiana Veloso (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) kept CSUMB rolling, scoring all four of her goals in the second period.
Siena outscored CSUMB 7–5 in the second half, but the Otters had distanced themselves by more than enough to take the 12–10 win and end the weekend on a high note.
Along with Veloso's four scores, Craft netted three more goals, while
Katrina Conen (Granite Bay High School) found the back of the net twice.
Monterey Bay will head back to the Pacific time zone and will head to Southern California for games against Cal Baptist and Cal Lutheran on February 26.
