SEASIDE, Calif. -- In its first home game in over a month, the Cal State Monterey Bay Women's Water Polo team welcomed Harvard University to the The Otter Tank on Saturday afternoon. The Otters hung with the Crimson for most of the game, but were unable to get over the hump, falling to the visitors from the east, 4–7.
CSUMB was shut out in the first quarter, falling into an 0–2 hole.
Tatiana Veloso (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) got the Otters on the board in the second quarter, closing the gap to one goal at 1–2 with 2:44 remaining in the half. Harvard extended the lead back to two goals by netting its third goal of the game with 51 seconds left in the half.
After giving up a goal to start the third quarter, the Otters scored twice on back–to–back goals from
Adrianna Craft (Belmont, Mich. / Rockford Senior HS) and
Nicole Koorndyk (Claremont HS) to put the Otters within one goal at the end of the third quarter, 3–4. In the fourth quarter, CSUMB was unable to overcome the Crimson as they were outscored 1–3 and handed the 7–4 loss.
Kylie Wheelock (Clovis HS) scored the fourth goal for the Otters, while goalkeeper
Amanda Jennings (Oakley, Calif. / Freedom HS) recorded 16 saves for the Otters in the loss.
Monterey Bay falls to 5–13 on the season and will be back in action next Saturday, March 28, for a WWPA contest against Cal State East Bay. First sprint is set for noon.
