HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State Women's Water Polo team went into it's match with Cal State East Bay on Saturday looking for it's first win of the 2015 season. It took a second half comeback, but the Otters were able to secure the victory over the Pioneers by a score of 9–8 on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Pool.

Bree Hogervorst's (Ramona, Calif. / Mountain Valley Academy) third goal of the match putting the Otters within one at 5–6.
Adrianna Craft (Belmont, Mich. / Rockford Senior HS), Cami Kellogg (Felton, Calif. / San Lorenzo Valley HS), and
Samantha Whitecotton (Roseville, Calif. / Woodcreek HS) followed Hogervorst's lead and all scored during the run, giving CSUMB a 8–6 lead.
Down 8–6, the Pioneers were able to counter, scoring twice in the fourth quarter. However, Kellogg's second goal of the quarter and the Otter defense, led by Senior goalkeeper
Amanda Jennings' (Oakley, Calif. / Freedom HS) 14 saves proved to be the difference in the 9–8 road victory.
"It was good to get our first win," said head coach Gary Figuroa (@Coach_Fig). "We calmed down in the second half and played much better."
Hogervorst led the Otters offensively with a hat trick while Kellogg and Whitecotton each recorded two goals.
Tatiana Veloso (Rio de Janiero, Brazil / Colegio Sao Vicente de Paulo ) and Craft chipped in with one goal apiece.
Three Pioneers tallied two scores in the loss and goalkeeper Marrina Nation made 12 saves.
The Otters move their record to 1–4 on the season while CSUEB drops to 1–2.
Cal State Monterey Bay will host the CSUMB Mini Tournament I next Saturday, January 31 when the Otters welcome Santa Clara University and Fresno Pacific to The Otter Tank. First sprints are set for 10:00 a.m vs. SCU and 4:00 p.m. vs. FPU with the Broncos and Sunbirds facing off at 1:00 p.m.
