TURLOCK, Calif. – It took 11 innings but the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team pulled off a 9-3 season finale victory over host Cal State Stanislaus Sunday to win the series 3-1.

Senior Mark Hurley (Hollister/College of San Mateo) led all hitters with four hits including his 20th double of the season to pull him alongside Danny Nelson (2011) and Daniel Gomez (2007) in the No. 1 spot of the CSUMB record book.

In the 11th inning, CSUMB batted around with freshman Josh Heinz (Santa Claria/West Ranch HS) starting the 6-run rally with a single and drawing a walk in his second time up to bat.  The Otters roped in five hits while capitalizing on three walks and two wild pitches with the only multiple RBI coming on Hurley's 2-out single through the right side.

After five scoreless innings, Stanislaus got on the board first with two runs on three hits.

The Otters cut the Warrior lead in half on Devin Finn's (Pleasnton/Amador Valley HS) sacrifice fly, scoring Cannon Bernarding (San Jose/West Valley College) had a 1-out double to left field.

After a Hurley single and a Richie Johnson (San Leandro/San Jose State) double to leadoff the ninth, junior Blake Grant-Parks (Yuba City/Sierra College) takes the ball to left center to plate Hurley.  Senior Jason Brady (Campbell/West Valley College) flies one out to center for Johnson to tag up and score, giving CSUMB its first lead of the day at 3-2.

Yet the Warriors would not go away quietly, scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth to push the game into extra innings once again in Turlock. After Chaidez leadoff with a single, Beatty pushed the ball up the middle for a two-out RBI single.

Neither team was able to get a runner in scoring position in the 10th.

After projected starter Josh Eagle was sidelined during warm ups, senior Michael Isom (Fresno/Hofstra) took the ball to toss four shutout innings while allowing only two hits and walking one Warrior.

Four CSUMB relievers – including first-time pitcher Cody Gappa (Corning/Feather River College) – took the mound before Brian Scott (Campbell/West Valley College) closed out the game after three innings of work. He gave up one run on five hits while striking out two Warriors to collect his first win of the season.

After tallying two hits in the loss, Stanislaus junior Marcus Mastrobuoni finishes the season as the CCAA batting champion with a .371 average.  Teammate Skippy Ferreria follows with a .371 batting average while Hurley ends his collegiate career tied for third in the CCAA statistics alongside Cal Poly Pomona's Joseph Eusebio at .361.

Hurley and junior Brian Hamm (Pleasanton/Chabot College) both conclude the regular season at the top of the CCAA in a specific category. With three doubles in the final weekend, Hurley finished with a CCAA-best 20 doubles.  Hamm's 22 stolen bases made him the biggest threat to CCAA pitchers in 2014.

The Otters wrapped up the 2014 season winning seven of their last eight games to finish sixth in the CCAA standings.
