CSUMB Pulls Away Early In 13-8 Victory Over CSUSB

The Otters look to take momentum into their game this evening when they host Colorado State for Senior Night at 6 p.m.

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team began the day with a 13-8 victory over Cal State San Bernardino in the Otter Tank.
 
The Otters drew three quick ejections within the first three minutes of play, but did not capitalize until the third with a goal by senior Katie Sowul (Anaheim/Esperanza HS).
 
After netting their first goal, CSUMB came out hot outscoring the Coyotes 6-1 in the second quarter alone. Five different Otters scored, led by Christina Vournas (Agoura Hills/Agoura HS) with two big outside shots. Senior Nikki Smart (Clovis/Buchanan HS) swam in a fast break with just 12 seconds remaining in the first half to take a 8-2 lead into the break.
 
The Otters took advantage of being at home and where able to give all active members playing time. 
 
CSUMB's defense proved to be a focus as the team held the Coyotes to scoring only one goal for the first three quarters.
 
The Otter water polo team returns to the Otter Tank for their Senior Night game and will host Colorado State in a 6 p.m. game. The team will be honoring their three seniors starting at 5:45 p.m.
 
CSUMB            2 – 6 – 2 – 3 = 13
CSUSB             1 – 1 – 1 – 5 = 8
