SEASIDE, Calif. -
The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team will head to Santa Clara this Saturday to play a pair of road games. The Otters will take on Cal Baptist University at noon after a morning match-up with the hosting Broncos. CSUMB will return to the Otter Tank for a single game Sunday, Feb. 24, hosting conference opponent Division I Cal State Bakerfield.

COACHES CORNER WITH GARY FIGUEROA: “Key week for our team. How we respond to last week's game will help us finish the season as we are planning; better than ever. We will refocus on what allows us to succeed; strong team defense. Defending our victory over Santa Clara this season happens as we remember what we do best. This will also serve us well against Cal Baptist and our home game against Division I Cal State Bakersfield this Sunday.”

WHEN WE LAST MET SANTA CLARA: Fresh in both teams memories as it was only a few week ago, the Otters earned a 10-4 victory over the Broncos in the Otter Tank, this marking the first time CSUMB has beat Santa Clara during regular season WWPA play. Persistent defense gave the Otters the opportunity to push the ball on offense and outscore the Broncos, keeping at least a three-point lead throughout the game.  CSUMB earned a 10-4 win in the Otter Tank.  Both teams played a highly physical game, finishing with a total of 16 ejections collectively. Senior Katie Sowul contributed five goals to the team's total.

WHEN WE LAST MET CAL BAPTIST: The last meeting between the two teams was back in the 2010 season at the Santa Clara Rodeo Tournament. The Lancers put the pressure on early, posting a 10-2 lead at halftime. The Otters would not be able to make a comeback after a scoreless third quarter. CBU earned a 14-5 victory over CSUMB.

WHEN WE LAST MET CAL STATE BAKERSFIELD: The Otters concluded the 2011 season with a thrilling overtime victory over the Roadrunners at the WWPA Conference Tournament. Chloe McRae's goal with nine seconds remaining in regulation forced the game into overtime short quarters.  Nikki Smart and Jackie Walters teamed up for a pair of goals in the first extra period to take the win 12-10 (May 1, 2011).

OTTER PLAYMAKER: Junior Jackie Walters has been the team leader in assists so far this season, compiling a total 18 respectively. Walters recorded a single game season-high four assists versus Santa Clara on Feb. 4.
