SEASIDE, Calif.
- The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team will look to host conference opponent Loyola Marymount for the first time this Friday, Jan. 27. The last time these two teams met was at the WWPA Conference Championship Tournament where the Otters would play a close first half but not able to keep up in the third quarter. The Lions would earn a 15-3 victory. The only other time the teams have met was in 2009. LMU took the 11-4 win, making the Otters overall record 0-2 against the Lions. Seniors Nikki Smart and Katie Sowul contributed one goal apiece.

LOOKING AHEAD: CSUMB will head up to Berkeley, Calif. to play in the NorCal Tournament hosted by Cal on Saturday, Jan. 28. They will face Pomona Pitzer in the morning before taking on the Cal Bears. The Otters will return home the following weekend to host their first mini tournament of the season with Santa Clara University and Fresno Pacific coming to play at the Otter Tank on Feb. 4.

RECORD SETTING: Last week's match versus UC Santa Barbara was the closest the Otters have come to defeating the Guachos. The two teams previous meeting was back in 2009 in Santa Barbara. CSUMB fell 15-7, with a second half come back falling short.

ACWPC CO-PLAYER OF THE YEAR RETURNS: Nikki Smart became the first Otter in any program in school history to earn NCAA Division II Player of the Year honors. Smart, CSUMB's leading scorer in 2011, racked up 119 goals, including seven five–meter goals and 33 6–on–5 goals. She recorded 41 assists and 56 steals in her 38 games.
