SEASIDE, Calif. - Cal State Monterey Bay Athletics' first ever student-athlete alumni campaign resulted in a resounding success both in participation and funds raised in support of student-athlete success at CSUMB.
"I'm so thankful for the time, energy and financial support of our alumni, said Director of Athletics, Kirby Garry. "Their enthusiasm in stepping forward in support of our current student-athletes during this first time campaign is impressive and humbling."
The goal of the Alumni Challenge was to strengthen bonds with student–athlete alumni while growing support for current Otter student–athletes. During the three week challenge (Oct 5 - Oct 23) each of CSUMB's 13 teams engaged its alumni with social media, email, zoom and phone calls designed to reconnect and encourage participation in the challenge competition between the teams.
A total of 235 alumni participated with contributions totaling $14,629 in support of their sport programs. All funds raised during the challenge directly support individual sport programs.
The top three sports, by participation percentage, were 1st place: Volleyball, 2nd place: Men's Golf and 3rd place: Softball.
"This is just the start of a stronger connection between our alumni, coaches and student-athletes, said Garry. "These results set the tone for the future success of our athletic department."
