SEASIDE, Calif - The 2025 Otter Alumni Challenge once again highlighted the strength, pride, and generosity of the Cal State Monterey Bay community. As part of Raft Week (Oct. 8–12), alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends came together to raise $21,109 from 196 donors, providing direct support for scholarships, travel, nutrition, and team needs across all 12 Otter Athletics programs.
Participation came from across the entire Otter community, demonstrating the broad base of support that continues to power Otter Athletics:
- 34% Alumni
- 24% Friends & Community Members
- 23% Parents
- 7% Students
- 6% Faculty & Staff
The campaign also featured a spirited competition among programs, with Softball leading the way in participation, followed by Baseball, Volleyball, and Water Polo, a true reflection of Otter pride throughout the department.
Since its launch in 2020, the Alumni Challenge has now raised more than $90,000 in support of Otter student–athletes. This year's results reinforce the growing impact of private giving and the importance of sustaining that momentum to help programs thrive.
"Each year, the Alumni Challenge reminds us how much our community believes in the mission of Otter Athletics," said Director of Athletics
Kirby Garry. "We are incredibly grateful for the alumni, parents, friends, and campus partners who continue to invest in our student–athletes. Private support is critical for our programs to compete and grow. As we look forward, that collective generosity will continue to play an essential role in helping student–athletes achieve success in competition, in the classroom, and in life."
The spirit of the Alumni Challenge doesn't stop here. Your ongoing support helps keep our raft strong all year long, fueling scholarships, travel, and training resources for every Otter team.
