SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay Athletics has launched its sixth annual Otter Alumni Challenge, inviting alumni, fans, and friends to join the Otter RAFT in supporting student–athletes during Raft Week, October 8–12.

The Alumni Challenge unites all 12 CSUMB athletic programs in a friendly competition to see which team can inspire the most alumni participation. Every dollar raised directly supports each team's scholarships, equipment, travel, and program needs, with funds remaining within the team's budget. The team with the highest alumni participation rate at the end of the week will earn a bonus contribution for its program.

"Once an Otter, always an Otter," said Director of Athletics Kirby Garry. "The Alumni Challenge gives our former student–athletes and supporters a chance to come together, celebrate Otter pride, and make a meaningful difference for the next wave of Otter student-athletes."

Since its launch in 2020, the Otter Alumni Challenge has raised $70,000 from over 1,100 supporters, providing essential resources for more than 300 student–athletes who represent CSUMB in the classroom, in competition, and in the community.

With rising costs and growing program needs, continued private support bridges the gap between available resources and what our programs need to compete and thrive. "Every gift makes a difference," Garry added. "The Alumni Challenge is one of the best ways for our community to show its support and directly impact student–athlete success."
