Polo Makes Splash In ACWPC Academic Awards

Otters place NCAA Division II high 17 on the ACWPC list

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay water polo made another big splash in the classroom as 17 Otters earned All-Academic awards from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches for their work during the 2024-25 academic year.

The ACWPC awards its All-Academic honors in three categories: Outstanding (3.71 – 4.0 GPA), Superior (3.41 – 3.70) and Excellent (3.20 – 3.40).

CSUMB's 17 winners were tops amongst NCAA Division II teams from the West Region and tied for first amongst teams in the Western Water Polo Association.

"To have 17 athletes make the ACWPC All-Academic team is pretty incredible," says CSUMB Head Coach Emily Schmit. "These Otters work tirelessly in the classroom and in the pool. Each one of them deserves the recognition and I am so proud of them."

As a team, CSUMB placed No. 2 in NCAA Division II and No. 23 amongst all colleges with a 3.56 GPA, finishing just below Stanford (3.60) and Brown (3.59).

Leading the way, as ever, was Autumn Day (Murrieta Valley HS), the 2025 CSC Academic All-American® who completed her degree in psychology with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Day joined Allyson Ainsworth (West Sacramento/River City HS), Stella Martin (Clovis West HS), Ximena Pichon (Clovis HS) and Katie Rudis (Oceanside/El Camino HS) as repeat recipients of the Outstanding recognition. Ainsworth, Day and Pichon each won for the third consecutive season.
