Otters Cap Off Bronco Invitational

CSUMB goes 1-3 in Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team finished the Bronco Invitational with a 1-3 record over the weekend at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.

The Otters earned their lone win on Sunday with an 11-3 decision over Austin College. CSUMB dropped games to Concordia, 18-11, Marist, 21-9, and to No. 13 Pacific, 17-6.

GAME 1 | Concordia 18 – CSUMB 11

Seven different Otters found the net as Stella Martin and Becca Bijold scored two goals apiece. Martin along with Allyson Ainsworth and Annika Harper were credited with a pair of assists.

The Otters kept it close in the opening quarter down just 3-2. Concordia then pulled away with six goals in the second and seven in the third before CSUMB won the fourth quarter, 3-2.

GAME 2 | Marist 21 – CSUMB 9

Martin continued her scoring ways in the second game of the tournament as she tallied four points on two goals and two assists. Ainsworth recorded three points on a goal and two assists, while Autumn Day also had three points on a goal and two assists. Becca Bijold rattled the cage twice for the Otters.

Grace Mensing was credited with 20 saves.

Ultimately Marist was able to run away from CSUMB with 13 second half goals.

GAME 3 | CSUMB 11 – Austin College 3

A strong defensive effort and impressive goalkeeping from Mensing propelled the Otters to their first win of the weekend.

Mensing was credited with 24 saves and sported an .889 save percentage in Sunday's opener.

The Otters shutout Austin in the opening frame and allowed just one goal in each ensuing quarter to cruise to victory.

Martin dished out three assists, while Bijold, Harper and Paige Labayog had two goals apiece.

GAME 4 | #13 Pacific 17 – CSUMB 6

After a stellar performance in the first game of the day, the Otters were without Mensing in the tournament finale.

Katie Vaupel got her first action in goal for the Otters as she made 12 saves.

Shea Tully paced the Otters with two goals.

CSUMB will return to the pool on March 1 to participate in the Claremont Convergence Tournament.
