SEASIDE, Calif. —
After earning All–America recognition for his play on the field in 2023, CSUMB junior Nico Hartojo (Arvada, Colo./MPC) the Collegiate Sports Communicators (CSC) recognized him for his ability to combined athletic excellence with academic achievement by bestowing on him Academic All–America® honors.

Hartojo is the seventh Otter to earn the award in the last 10 seasons and the second Otter so honored this season. Colin O'Mahony, who completed his Otter career as the CCAA Defensive Play of the Year, joined the list this past fall.

"We all are extremely proud of Nico. Nico embodies everything student–athletes aspire to be," says CSUMB Head Coach Walt White. "Earning Academic All–America is an honor that is more difficult to achieve than most honors given out through the NCAA. This honor not only recognizes Nico's stellar on field play, but it acknowledges that he accomplished this while also being one of the top students in the country."

Hartojo graduated in the spring with his bachelor's degree in computer science. He has another year of eligibility remaining and is expected to return to help the Otters defending the CCAA crown in 2024.

Hartojo did a little bit of everything for the Otters in 2023. He started in right field as well as at first base, third base and shortstop. He also made nine appearance and two starts on the mound. He found success wherever he played.

Hartojo won the CCAA batting crown by hitting .399, the second highest average in Otter history. He finished third in the conference in OPS (1.130) and fifth in home runs (11).

His .493 on-base percentage and .634 slugging percentage both ranked No. 5 in Otter history.

As a pitcher, Hartojo finished 5–2 with a 6.11 ERA. He struck out 28 batters in 28 innings, becoming the 10th player in program history to fan at least one batter per inning in a season (min. 25 IP).

Hartojo led the Otters to their second consecutive CCAA title in 2023 and their first CCAA Tournament Championship. CSUMB (39–18 overall) advanced to the NCAA Super Regional for the first time ever and earned a No. 6 national ranking, it's highest ever.
