Otters Place 14 On ACWPC All–Academic Teams

CSUMB places 23rd as a team in ACWPC academic ranking

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay water polo completed another strong year in the classroom by placing 14 of its 22 student–athletes on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All–Academic teams for 2022.

The ACWPC All–Academic team recognize three levels of distinction: Excellent (3.2+ GPA), Superior (3.42+) and Outstanding (3.71+). Six of CSUMB's honorees earned the highest classification of Outstanding. Six more received Superior recognition and two others were deemed Excellent.

As a team, CSUMB placed 23rd nationally in the ACWPC academic rankings.

"Earning ACWPC All–Academic honors means a lot this year, considering all the obstacles they had to overcome," says CSUMB Head Coach Emily Schmit. "This recognition says a lot about the character and determination of these Otters. We are so proud of the academic achievements of each one of these players."

Seniors Olivia Centis and Kaitlin Rooney led the sextet of Otters earning Outstanding recognition for GPAs above 3.70. Allyson Ainsworth, Meg Gostanian, Abby Keegan and Zoe Reid joined them in the top tier.

Hailey Alexander, Amanda Bennett, Grace Hamilton, Kaya Ortega, Emma Silveria and Abigail Summers earned Superior recognition. Laura Heberle and Megan Taylor earned spots on the Excellent list. 

Alexander, Bennett, Centis, Keegan, Ortega and Rooney each won All–Academic recognition for the third time. Heberle and Taylor made the list for the second time.
