Happy New Year, Otters! 
We are excited to kick off the 2022-23 season this week with our Women's Soccer home opener versus Biola University on Thursday, August 25 at 3pm. Men's Soccer is on the road to Colorado to face two strong Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents. Volleyball will play three matches at home this week as we welcome five teams to the Otter Invitational in the Kelp Bed. Department Values
As I meet with each team this fall, I look forward to introducing (and reminding) our student-athletes of our Department Values. It is often the character and connection that each team develops during a season that ultimately leads to competitive success. I believe these shared values, when taken to heart and acted on, can be our competitive advantage.

New Year, New Look, New Balance
You will see a new look Otters this season as we signed a department wide agreement with New Balance through BSN Sports to be the new official apparel, footwear and uniform provider for Otter Athletics.  The agreement, valued at over $200,000, is a first for New Balance in NCAA Division II and the state of California.
 
Success in the Classroom
As we begin a new academic year, I'd like to celebrate and bring attention to our academic achievements of 2021-22 one last time. One of the foundational principles of NCAA DII Athletics is life in the balance. This balance allows our student-athletes to pursue a meaningful degree and graduate on time while training, competing and representing CSUMB in the sport they love.

CSUMB Baseball 2022 CCAA Champs

Your Otters made a strong return to competition in 2021-22, highlighted by Baseball's CCAA Championship and NCAA postseason run to the West Regional Final. I believe we are poised to take the next big step across all our sports in 2022-23. But before we start keeping score in the new year, please take a look back on a record breaking 2021-22 in the Monterey Bay Magazine.
