SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's and women's soccer teams will look to build on their best–ever combined seasons in 2021 by enjoying a new style of home cooking in 2022. The Otters officially have announced their 2022 schedule, which includes 14 contests in Cardinale Stadium, the home of Monterey Bay Football Club.
"We are excited to kick off a new era in CSUMB Soccer as we prepare to play our home games at Cardinale Stadium," says CSUMB Director of Athletics Kirby Garry (@kirbygarry). "This is an amazing opportunity for our student-athletes to train and compete in a first class venue."
"We are thrilled to welcome the CSUMB men's and women's soccer teams to Cardinale Stadium," says Monterey Bay F.C. President Mike DiGiulio. "It's a great opportunity to further interact with the athletic department at the university, as Kirby Garry has been a tremendous partner to us."
MBFC invested more than $12 million in Cardinale Stadium, which sits on the site of the former Freeman Stadium on campus, for their inaugural USL Championship campaign. The Union christened the stadium with a 1–0 victory over Las Vegas on May 7.
The Otters will get their first look at game action in the venue when the women host Biola University in a West Region showdown on Thursday, August 25. The Otter men will open their slate of Cardinale Stadium games against West Region rival Holy Names University on Sept. 1.
Both programs will play all six of their home California Collegiate Athletic Association contests in Cardinale Stadium.
"We are thankful for our university leadership and the partnership with Ray Beshoff, Mike DiGuilio and Frank Yallop of the Monterey Bay Football Club in making this dream of a soccer specific stadium on our campus a reality," says Garry.
"I can't wait to watch the further growth of the CSUMB soccer program. This partnership is going to be great for the youth soccer community in Monterey County," says DiGiulio.
