Otter Soccer Teams Set for CCAA Tournament Following Historic Regular Seasons

Men's soccer hosts Menlo on Sunday at Cardinale Stadium; women's soccer returns to postseason after record-breaking unbeaten streak

October 30, 2026

SEASIDE, Calif. — Following a pair of historic regular-season campaigns, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's and women's soccer teams are headed to the CCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 1, with both programs looking to continue their impressive 2026 seasons.

The Otter men (11-3-3) will host Menlo College at noon at Cardinale Stadium, where they have been nearly unbeatable this season, posting a 7-0-1 record. The women (8-2-7) also punched their ticket to the postseason following an 11-match unbeaten streak and a victory in Thursday's regular-season finale. The women will face UC Merced at Bobcat Field at the same time.

Both teams enter the conference tournament having matched significant program milestones while featuring several players among the CCAA's statistical leaders.

MEN'S SOCCER: OTTERS BRING UNBEATEN HOME RECORD INTO POSTSEASON

The Monterey Bay men enjoyed one of the most successful regular seasons in program history, finishing with 11 victories to match the program's NCAA Division II-era regular-season wins record.

The Otters' 11-3-3 campaign included an eight-match unbeaten streak (7-0-1) from Sept. 27 through Oct. 25, during which they outscored opponents 22-7 and recorded four shutouts. The run featured seven consecutive victories, including a 2-1 road win over nationally ranked Cal State San Bernardino and a 3-0 shutout of Cal State East Bay.

Offensively, Monterey Bay finished the regular season as the CCAA's highest-scoring team, totaling 40 goals in 17 matches for an average of 2.35 per contest.

Philip Wolny has been a driving force behind the Otters' offensive success, leading the conference in assists per game (0.53) while tying for the CCAA lead with eight total assists. Wolny has added five goals for a team-high 18 points, ranking among the conference's top offensive performers.

Kai Martin leads the Otters with eight goals, tied for seventh in the CCAA, while his 16 points rank second on the team. Mason Ward has contributed six goals and three assists for 15 points, including three game-winning goals, tied for fourth-most in the conference.

The Otters have also received significant contributions from Cameron Fisk and Josh Moll, who each rank among the conference's assist leaders with five apiece.

In goal, Griffin Welch leads the CCAA in saves per game (4.20), while Jerry Godfryd has recorded three shutouts and owns a 5-0 record with a 0.40 goals-against average.

Monterey Bay's success has been particularly evident at Cardinale Stadium. The Otters finished the regular season unbeaten at home, including a scoreless draw against then-No. 1 Cal State LA and shutout victories over Cal State Dominguez Hills, Chico State and Cal State East Bay.

CSUMB will look to continue that home-field success Sunday when it welcomes Menlo for the opening round of the CCAA Tournament.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: RECORD-BREAKING STREAK FUELS POSTSEASON RETURN

The Monterey Bay women enter postseason play riding the momentum of a program-record 11-match unbeaten streak, having gone 6-0-5 since late September. The Otters open the postseason at UC Merced, with kickoff slated for Noon at Bobcat Field.

The Otters concluded the regular season at 8-2-7, matching the program's NCAA Division II-era single-season wins record established in 2012.

Thursday's 2-0 victory at Menlo secured Monterey Bay's postseason berth and extended its unbeaten run, with Juliana Dow and Naomi Tobias providing second-half goals.

Dow has put together one of the finest offensive seasons in program history, finishing the regular season tied for the CCAA lead with 11 goals while leading the conference outright with 26 points.

The Otter standout also ranks second in the CCAA with five game-winning goals and second in total shots with 59. Her 26 shots on goal are tied for third in the conference.

Dow has been especially effective during Monterey Bay's late-season surge, scoring in five consecutive matches to close the regular season.

Ella Schug has also been a key contributor to the Otter attack, finishing tied for third among the conference's assist leaders with five.

Defensively, goalkeeper Willow Baltazar has been one of the CCAA's top performers, recording eight shutouts, tied for fifth-most in the conference. Baltazar ranks among the league leaders with 62 saves and an .827 save percentage, while averaging 3.65 saves per match.

Her play has been instrumental in Monterey Bay's defensive success, helping the Otters record seven shutouts during their 11-match unbeaten streak.

The veteran defensive unit, anchored by Jada Hardwick and Jordan Sawyer, has provided consistency throughout the season, helping Monterey Bay emerge as one of the conference's most difficult teams to score on.

With an NCAA-era wins record matched, a program-record unbeaten streak intact and one of the conference's leading scorers powering the offense, the Otters enter the CCAA Tournament looking to extend their historic season.

Both Monterey Bay soccer programs begin CCAA Tournament play Sunday, Nov. 1. The CCAA Tournament semifinals and championship matches will take place at Cal Poly Pomona's Kellogg Stadium, with the women's semifinals scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 5, and the men's semifinals Friday, Nov. 6.
