Otters Roll Past Cal State East Bay; Extend Winning Streak to Seven

CSUMB Matches NCAA-Era Wins Record, Extend Unbeaten Streak to Eight

SEASIDE, Calif. — No. 15 Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer continued its historic season Sunday afternoon, cruising to a 3-0 victory over Cal State East Bay at Cardinale Stadium to secure its 11th win of the season and match the program's NCAA-era regular-season wins record.

The victory improved the Otters to 11-2-3 overall and 7-1-3 in CCAA play, extending their winning streak to seven consecutive matches and their unbeaten run to eight (7-0-1).

With 11 victories, Monterey Bay has matched the regular-season win total achieved by the 2013 and 2023 squads, tying the most wins in a regular season since the program transitioned to NCAA Division II competition.

Sunday's victory was fueled by a two-goal performance from Aziah Nelson, while Angad Bains added his first goal of the season and an assist to help the Otters complete a dominant afternoon.

Nelson opened the scoring in the 41st minute, finishing a feed from Bains at 40:11 to give Monterey Bay a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The Otters continued to apply pressure after the break, and Bains doubled the lead at 58:34, scoring his first goal of the campaign off assists from Josh Moll and Cameron Fisk.

Nelson put the finishing touches on the victory in the 76th minute, recording his second goal of the match off assists from Jacob Burnison and Moll to give CSUMB a commanding 3-0 advantage.

Monterey Bay controlled the attacking opportunities throughout the match, outshooting East Bay 24-15, including a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Otters also held an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.

The shutout marked another impressive defensive performance during Monterey Bay's unbeaten stretch. Since battling Cal Poly Pomona to a 3-3 draw on Sept. 27, the Otters have rattled off seven consecutive victories, outscoring their opponents 22-7 over the eight-match unbeaten run.

The stretch has included four shutout victories, highlighted by consecutive clean sheets against Cal State Dominguez Hills, UC Merced and Chico State, followed by Sunday's shutout of East Bay.

Monterey Bay closes out the regular season Thursday, Oct. 29, traveling to Atherton to face Menlo College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Wunderlich Field.
