Otters Drop Another Heartbreaker To Biola

CSUMB falls 8-7 in second game of home-and-home series with Eagles

LA MIRADA, Calif. — For the second consecutive game, Cal State Monterey Bay fell in heart-breaking fashion to Biola University, this time dropping an 8–7 decision to the Eagles at the la Mirada Regional Aquatics Center.

Last week, Biola scored as time expired to to win 10–9 in The Otter Tank. This time, the Otters rallied to within a goal and had a shot to win on the final possession but couldn't find the tying goal.

Biola led 5–1 at the half and led 8–5 midway through the fourth quarter when Olivia Centis (Beaverton, Ore./Westview HS) and Shelby Fortune (San Diego/Patrick Henry HS) to pull CSUMB to within a goal with just over two minutes remaining, The Otter defense held, but the offense could get shots to find home on the final two possessions.

Centis recorded her fifth hat trick of the season while Kaitlin Rooney (Morgan Hill/Presentation HS) added a goal and matched her career high with five assists to lead the Otter attack. Megan Taylor (Capo Valley HS) made 10 saves and Laura Heberle (Rio Americano HS/American River College) had three steals to lead the defense.

The Otters will close the home portion of their 2022 schedule with three home matches this week. The action kicks off with a visit from San Diego State Thursday (Mar. 31) at 5 p.m.
