More Than 100 Otters Earn CCAA All–Academic Recognition

Softball leads the way with 21 honorees; baseball leads the men’s sports with 14

SEASIDE, Calif. — A record 102 Cal State Monterey Bay student–athletes earned All–Academic recognition from the California Collegiate Athletic Association for their work in the classroom during the 2019–20 academic year, the conference offense announced this week.

To be named a CCAA All–Academic performer, student–athletes must have competed in a conference–sponsored sport and earned a varsity letter during the academic year while also earning a 3.40 or higher GPA during the academic year.

It's worth noting that 14 Otters earned all–academic honors from the Western Water Polo Association earlier this month. Since water polo is not a CCAA sport they were not including amongst the 102 recognized this week.

In raw numbers, CSUMB placed fourth overall behind UC San Diego, Chico State and Cal State San Marcos. It should be noted that each of those schools' numbers were inflated by including men's track, a sport CSUMB doesn't sponsor.

Softball led the way with 21 of the 27 eligible Otters earning spots on the list. Women's soccer followed with 17 honorees. Baseball led the CSUMB men's sports with 14.

Men's golf (5 of 10) and volleyball (11 of 17) also saw more than half of their respective squads earn the award.
