Otters will play Salem University in the WWPA fifth place game Sunday morning

GENEVA, Ohio — Cal State Monterey Bay won a thriller for the second consecutive day, this time holding off Sonoma State 13–12 to advance to the fifth place game at the Wester Water Polo Association Championship Tournament at SPIRE.

The win sets up a meeting betwen the No. 8 seed Otters and No. 6 seed Salem University Sunday morning. Salem defeated Mercyhurst 7–6 in Saturday's final game to earn its spot in the fifth place match.

CSUMB got four goals from yesterday's hero, freshman Olivia Centis (Beaverton, Ore./Westview HS), who once again scored the match–winner, and four more from fellow freshamn Kaitlin Rooney (Morgan Hill/Presentation HS). Marisa Lovos (Tualatin [Ore.] HS) added two goals, an assist and five steals.

Sonoma scored the first goal, but the Otters responded with a 5–1 run over the next 10 minutes that gave them a lead they would never relinquish. The Seawolves ralled from 12≠8 down to pull to within 12–11 late, but the final Centis goal 2:42 from time provided just enough cushion for the Otters to secure the win

Gwynne McBride, Morgan Tucker and Olivia Woolery account for the other CSUMB goals Saturday. Shelby Stephens went the distance in goal and made three saves.
