SEASIDE — No. 11 UC Davis scored nine goals in the first 12 minutes and rode that hot start to an 18–9 win over Cal State Monterey Bay Wednesday afternoon in the Otter Tank.

The teams played to an almost dead heat over the final 21 minutes, with the visiting Aggies holding a slim 9–8 advantage over that span. But the Otters never were able to cut the deficit to fewer than five goals in the second half.

"Today, we faced another tough opponent. Davis came out really hard from the start," said CSUMB Head Coach Emily Schmit. "Once we made some adjustments, it was a competitive game. The game highlighted our growth from the last time we played them."

Senior Marisa Lovos (Tualatin [Ore.] HS) recorded her fourth hat trick of the season, finishing with four goals to lead the CSUMB offense. Freshman Olivia Centis (Beaverton, Ore./Westview HS) ran her scoring streak to seven consecutive games. She and Lovos (10 games) own the longest active scoring streaks by an Otter.

Lovos and Centis also led the Otter defense with two steals each.

In the cage, senior Shelby Stephens (Stockton/S.J. Delta College) made nine save for CSUMB. She passed Paige Robinson (2011–13) for No. 5 on the Otter career saves list with 296. Her 147 saves in 2019 are just two off her career high and rank No. 12 on the CSUMB single–season list.

The Otters will get a rare weekend off before returning to action next Wednesday when they host San Diego State for a rare 5 p.m. first sprint.
