Otters spot FPU a 5–0 lead before falling 12–9; Lovos scores four goals

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay spotted Fresno Pacific a 5–0 lead and never could climb all the way out of the hole in dropping a 12–9 Western Water Polo Association decision to the Sunbird Saturday afternoon in the Otter Tank.

Fresno led 5–0 three minutes into the second quarter when Olivia Boisen (Mission Viejo/Capo Valley HS) finally broke the seal for the Otters. CSUMB would go on to score six of the next eight goals. The Otters closed to within a goal of the lead three times in the second half, and had a power play down 9–8 in the fourth quarter, but never managed to equalize.

Senior Marisa Lovos (Tualatin [Ore.] HS) scored four goals for her sixth hat trick of the season and her fifth in the last eight games. Morgan Tucker (San Diego/Clairemont HS) added two goals and Kaitlin Rooney (Morgan Hill/Presentation HS) led the defense with three steals.

The Otters head north on Highway 101 to take on WWPA rival Sonoma State Saturday (Mar. 23) before return home Mar. 25 to host nationally–ranked UC Santa Barbara to kick off a 4–game homestand.
