HAYWARD, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay track and field enjoyed a big meet, breaking five school records at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival at the Chabot College track stadium.
Six Otter athletes combined to set high water marks in the 100 meters, 400 hurdles, 4x400 relay and the triple jump. Eight season best marks completed the big meet.
"This (meet) was a good couple of days sandwiched by strong 1,500 races and ending with a PR and school record in the 400 hurdles," said CSUMB Head Coach
Greg Rhines. "The in between was awesome too with a even more PRs and records broken. Well done Otters!"
The first school record to fall came in the triple jump, where freshman
Jade Murray (Bishop Montgomery HS) PRed at 35–8 and 3/4. It marked the third consecutive week that she has hit the CCAA Championship qualifying standard.
Freshman
Devon Denhart (Ripon HS) set a school record in the 100 meters for the second consecutive week, running 14.06 Saturday to best her previous mark by a full fifth of a second. Fellow freshman
Jessica Bettencourt (Turlock HS) did the same in the 400 hurdles, topping her 1:10.16 set at the Hornet Invitational last week with a 1:08.38 this week.
Bettencourt also ran leadoff in CSUMB's record 4x400 meter relay. She teamed with
Alex Baron (San Jose/Prospect HS),
Trinity Gomez (Downey/Warren HS) and
Elajah Trosclair (Sacramento HS) to run 4:15.67.
Junior
Allison Crowley (Redlands HS) continues to flirt with a CCAA qualifying mark in the 400 meters. She ran 1:00.74 Saturday—a team season best—less than one–half second off the standard.
Junior
Natalie Vaughn (Corona/Santiago HS) nearly broke her own CSUMB record in the 10,000 meters, running 18:39.85 this week. That's just 0.37 seconds of the record she set in Sacramento last week.
The Otters will take a week off before heading back to Hayward for the East Bay Invitational Apr. 14 at Cal State East Bay.
