FRESNO, Calif. — A late surge by host Fresno Pacific proved just enough to slip past Cal State Monterey Bay 13–9 in a nonconference water polo match between a pair of Western Water Polo Association foes Saturday at the Sunnyside Aquatics Complex.

CSUMB scored three consecutive goals around the minute surrounding halftime, including a pair by junior Olivia Woolery (San Diego/Clairemont HS), to take a 7–5 lead. But the Sunbirds rallied to out–score CSUMB 8–1 over the ensuing 13 minutes to grab control of the match at 13–8.

Sophomore Olivia Boisen (Capo Valley HS) added a tally 78 seconds from time to account for the final margin.

"Fresno Pacific is always a close and exciting game for us. This game was no different," said CSUMB Head Coach Emily Schmit. "We played extremely hard and created a lot of opportunities. The underclassmen developing  well and stepping up to be essential players. Unfortunately, the last quarter got away from us.

In addition to Woolery, Angela Steele (Agoura HS) and Marisa Lovos (Tualatin [Ore.] HS) also score two goals each for CSUMB. Freshman Nicole Lyckfors (Alameda HS) added a goal and two assists.

Delta College transfer Shelby Stephens (Stockton/Lincoln HS) went the distance in the cage and made four saves.

???????CSUMB continues its marathon 15–game roadtrip next Saturday at the UC Davis Mini Tournament. The Otters will take on the Chinese National Team and Big West Conference foe UC Davis next Saturday (Feb. 17).
