SEASIDE, Calif. — Friday marked the beginning of the
Emily Schmit era for the Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team. It also marked the beginning of the spring sports season as CSUMB battled Sonoma State to kick off the 2017 season at The Otter Tank.
The Otters remained close after a 1-1 first quarter and trailed by one, 3-2 at the half. However, SSU opened things up in the second half outscoring CSUMB 8-3 on its way to handing the Otters the 11-5 loss.
Morgan Tucker (Claremont HS) netted a hat trick which included a 5M penalty shot in the third quarter.
Tatiana Veloso (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) and
Marisa Lovos (Tualatin HS) also chipped in a goal each in the loss.
THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… SSU's Taylor Brown scored her second goal in the fourth quarter to give the Seawolves a 11-5 lead with 1:21 remaining.
