WWP at WWPAs

Women's Water Polo | April 26, 2015

FINAL BOX SCORE

GENEVA, Ohio --
It was a back and forth game throughout that featured five ties and four lead changes. The third–place game came down to the final minute to decide but with 58 seconds remaining, the Cal State Monterey Bay Women's Water Polo team scored the go–ahead goal from the hand of Adrianna Craft(Belmont, Mich. / Rockford Senior HS). The Otter defense was able to hold on for a 6–5 win over Sonoma State on Sunday morning at the SPIRE institute. CSUMB secured a third place finish and marks the best finish at the WWPA Championship Tournament in program history.

Samantha Whitecotton (Roseville, Calif. / Woodcreek HS) and Kylie Wheelock (Clovis HS) each scored twice in the game, accounting for four of the Otters six goals. However, it was Craft's steal in front of the Seawolf net that led to her game–winning goal with less than a minute remaining in the game.

"It was good to complete our trip with a win and our best conference finish to date," says head coach Gary Figueroa (@Coach_Fig). "We built momentum through the weekend to finish well."

Tatiana Veloso (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) also scored in the win, netting her tournament–leading 10th goal. Goalkeeper Amanda Jennings (Oakley, Calif. / Freedom HS) recorded another 16 saves in the defensive effort, increasing her tournament–leading total to 70 saves.

Jennings and Veloso each earned First Tam All–Tournament honors, while Kara Orr (Los Banos HS) was placed on the second team.

Monterey Bay ends the 2015 season with a 9–17 record and a third place finish at the WWPA Championship Tournament.
