SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — For the second time in three weeks, the Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team put a scare into perennial power Cal State San Bernardino. But the No. 19 Coyotes pulled the mask off the upset–minded Otters before the clock struck midnight on All Hallow's Eve eve to hold on for a 26–24, 23–25, 25–21, 25–13 win.
When these teams met in Coussoulis Arena on Oct. 6, the Otters also nearly forced the match to five sets before dropping a deuce set in the fourth. Although CSUMB has never gone the distance in San Bernardino, they've now forced the Coyotes to the brink of that in three of their last four trips to the Inland Empire.
Sophomore
Amber Tygart, from nearby Yucaipa High School, led the Otter offense with a career–high 14 kills.
Jessica Malcolm (Lodi HS) added 12 kills while
Rachel Cookus (Thousand Oaks HS) strengthened her quest for the CCAA digs title with a match–high 24.
The Otters continue their 4–match roadtrip Saturday night at red-hot UC San Diego. The Tritons have won five consecutive matches, including a sweep of Chico State Friday night.
GO OTTERS!
