SEASIDE, Calif. — Playing with two new setters is becoming old hat for the Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team, which followed Thursday's promising loss to San Francisco State with an impressive 25–23, 25–20, 31–29 sweep of Cal State East Bay Saturday night in The Kelp Bed.
The Otters tied a school record with 50 assists in a 3–set match and tied the school record for kills in a 3–set match against an NCAA Division II opponent with 51.
All three sets were as close as the final scores would indicate, including a barn–burner third set that featured 19 ties and nine lead changes.
Anela Visesio (Seaside HS) led a balanced Otter attack with 10 kills.
Ciara Reistad (22 assists) and
Maddy Underwood (21 assists), making just their second appearances ever as setters, helped the Otters tie a school record with 50 assists in a 3–set match. They also led an offense which hit .280 for the night, its second most efficient attacking match of the season and its best since hitting .297 in an opening day win over Holy Names University.
Saturday's win capped a 4–match Otter homestand. The Otters will take to the road for their next four matches, beginning Oct. 30 at No. 22 Cal State San Bernardino.
GO OTTERS!
