SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team lost the match, but in so doing helped "set" a new foundation for the remainder of the 2015 season. Forced to play without a true setter due to multiple injuries, the Otters nevertheless recorded their highest attack percentage in their last 10 matches in a 25–17, 25–19, 25–23 loss to San Francisco State Thursday night in The Kelp Bed.
Sophomore
Maddy Underwood (Spokane, Wash./GCU) and freshman
Ciara Reistad (La Quinta HS) set in a collegiate match for the first time. The duo combined for 29 assists—Reistad leading the way with 18—while Underwood just missed her career high by finishing with a team best 12 kills.
After a slow start, the Otters kicked it into gear in the second and third sets, hitting .294 and .282 respectively. But a strong Gator service game kept the Otters off balance while an even strong Gator block accounted for eight of CSUMB's 13 hitting errors on the evening.
CSUMB concludes its 4–match homestand Saturday by hosting Cal State East Bay for a 7 p.m. first serve.
GO OTTERS!
