Otters Rally For 10-8 Win Over CSUSB in WWPA Opener

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team opened the Western Water Polo Championship with a come-from-behind 10-8 victory over Cal State San Bernardino on Friday at the Canyonview Aquatic Center in La Jolla. 

CSUMB (10-17) advances to the semifinals, where the Otters will face rival Cal State East Bay (16-13)
on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Otters split with the Pioneers this season with both games going into overtime. 

The winner of Saturday's game will play in the championship game at 3 p.m. on Sunday while the loser will play for third place at 1 p.m. on Sunday

The Otters found themselves in a 7-5 hole after the first half, with Cami Kellogg's (Felton/San Lorenzo Valley HS) netting both of her goals of the game while Sam Whitecotton (Roseville/Woodcreek HS), Nicole Koorndyk and Bree Hogervorst chipped in one each. 

CSUMB cut the Coyotes' lead to 7-6 on Adrianna Craft's goal with 1 second remaining in the third quarter. 

The Otter offense exploded in the first two minutes of the four quarter with three unanswered goals by Craft, Hogervorst and Ashton Palmer, putting CSUMB in the lead at 9-7.  The Coyotes attempted a charge back by closing the gap to make it 9-8.  Hogervorst's third goal of the game in the final minute clinched the victory for CSUMB. 
 
Junior Amanda Jennings (Oakley/Freedom HS) collected nine saves in the contest.
