ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Senior Mark Hurley's (Hollister/College of San Mateo) RBI single in the ninth halted Sonoma State's George Asmus' complete game shutout Thursday afternoon at Seawolf Diamond. The Otters fell 3-1 in the 4-game series opener.

The game was a true pitching duel through the first five and half innings between junior Jeff Owen (Clovis East HS) and Asmus.  The Seawolves got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs on two hits, two walks and a wild pitch.

The Otters broke up Asmus' no-hitter in the seventh with back-to-back singles by Hurley and Richie Johnson (San Leandro/San Jose State).

Junior Brian Hamm (Pleasanton/Chabot College) leadoff the ninth with a single to right center.  He then registered his CCAA-leading 18th stolen base of the season, closing the gap of CSUMB's season record held by Tommy George to three. On a 0-2 count, Hurley blasted a single up the middle to score Hamm.

Owen (5-3) took the loss after giving up three runs on five hits and four walks.  He struck out four batters.  Sophomore Brett Hammond and Senior Collin Monagle each tossed shutout innings, registering two and one outs, respectively.

The Otters and Seawolves square off again in a doubleheader on Friday, April 18 at 11 a.m..
