SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team used 17 hits, including six for extra bases, to cruise past Cal State L.A., 19-4, Friday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex. 
 
The Otters snagged their first conference win, improving to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in CCAA action.  The Golden Eagles dropped to 4-7 (2-3 CCAA). 

Junior Jered Snow (Riversdale/Sierra College) led the offensive charge with three hits while Brian Hamm (Pleasanton/Chabot College)Mark Hurley (Hollister/College of San Mateo)Cannon Bernarding (San Jose/West Valley College), and Richie Johnson (San Leandro/San Jose State) each had two. Pinch hitter Travis Bonner (Los Gatos/West Valley College) also racked up two hits including a 2-run bomb over the left field wall in the seventh inning.
 
Otters posted a season-best first inning with five runs finishing with Johnson sliding home on a wild pitch after reaching on a 2 RBI double to left center.
 
CSUMB would go on and score in every inning except the sixth. 
 
Behind nine hits, the Golden Eagles scored single runs in the second, third, sixth  and eighth innings.
 
After fanning four batters today, junior Jeff Owen (Clovis East) is only four strike outs away from becoming CSUMB career leader.  Owen picked up his second win of 2014 after six innings of work.
 
CSULA's starter Brandon Quintero struggled from the get-go, relinquishing 10 runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings.  Niko Garcia was the only Golden Eagle to have a multi-hit game for the Golden Eagles.
 
The Otters-Golden Eagles return to the field on Saturday for a doubleheader at 11 a.m.
