SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay's women's water polo team had one of its strongest showing of the season yet to fell 14-6 to Santa Clara University.
The Broncos got the jump on the Otters by gaining a two-goal lead early in the first quarter with goals from Erin Sheridan and Elle Surbur. The Otters found themselves down 6-3 at the half after netting goals from juniors
Sarah Lowes (Newcastle, Wash./University of Maryland) and
Jessica Laurence (Danville/Monte Vista HS) along with freshman
Adrianna Craft (Belmont, Mich./Rockford HS).
The Broncos' offense rose to a new level in the third quarter with an additional five goals. Otter lone goal came on freshman
Cami Kellogg's (Felton/San Lorenzo Valley HS) two-meter step out shot.
The fourth and final quarter was defensively better for the Otters, only relinquishing two Bronco goals. Freshman
Amanda Kitchen (Albany, Ore./West Albany HS) and Craft each chipped in two Otter goals to close it at 14-6.
Junior keepers
Lindsey Catron and
Amanda Jennings combined for nine saves on the day.
The Otters return to action next weekend with their annual Alumni game. First sprint is at 11am at the Otter Tank.
