SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team dropped a 19-5 season opener to visiting San Jose State Saturday afternoon at The Otter Tank.
All five Otter goals came in the second half with sophomore
Samantha Whitecotton (Roseville/Woodcreek HS) leading the charge with two goals. Freshman
Adrianna Craft (Belmont, Mich./Rockford Senior HS) scored her first collegiate goal in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Junior
Nicole Koorndyk (Claremont HS) and sophomore
Sydney Nguyen (Cottonwood Heights, Utah/Brighton HS) also scored for the Otters.
Five different Spartans (Rae Lekness, Rachel Henry, Timi Molnar, Bianca Seyfert and Clara Espar) recorded hat tricks in today's contest.
Junior
Amanda Jennings (Oakley, Calif./Freedom HS) tallied 15 saves while Spartan starting keeper Maddie Reeardon finished with three saves in the first half. Backup keepers Katelynn Thompson had one save in the third while Katie Lind had no saves in the final quarter.
The Otters take next weekend off before competing in the Santa Barbara Invitational Jan. 24-26.
