SANTA CLARA, CALIF.—On an mild weathered afternoon at Sullivan Aquatics Center on the campus of Santa Clara, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team fell to a couple of WWPA opponents. CSUMB lost to LMU 12-3 before dropping a tough one to Colorado State 10-9.

Otter sophomore Hayley Burke (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry HS) continued her strong play down the stretch with two goals versus No. 11 LMU.

The Otters continue play at SCU tomorrow with a WWPA contest versus UC San Diego at 10:40am, followed by a game versus Santa Clara at 4:00pm. 

Game 1: No. 11 LMU 12, CSUMB 3

The nation's 11th ranked team began the game in dominating fashion. Six unanswered goals staked LMU to a 6-0 lead after just a quarter of play.

The Tigers and Otters traded a goal each in the second as the teams went to halftime with LMU holding a 7-1 advantage.

LMU won the second half as well and ultimately the game by a score of 12-3.

Paige Robinson (San Jose, Calif./Lynbrook HS) and Amanda Jennings (Oakley, Calif./Freedom HS) combined to make 15 saves for CSUMB.

Game 2: Colorado State 10, CSUMB 9

In a game that featured a couple WWPA opponents fighting for positioning in the standings and for seeding's in the conference's tournament, competition in the pool was fierce.

Throughout the first half of play, neither team was able to grab a lead of more than one goal. Otter senior Jackie Walters (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla HS) scored one of her three goals with 1:57 left in the second half to give the Otters a 5-4 lead.

Unfortunately, it would be the last lead of the day for CSUMB. Colorado State won the third quarter 3-1 and used the cushion they built to hold on for a 10-9 WWPA victory.
