Otter sophomore goalie Amanda Jennings made 20 saves in CSUMB's 10-7 victory over Sonoma State on Sunday at the WWPA Championships.
SANTA CLARA, Calif.—They say that you want your team to be peaking at the right time of the season. The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team continued their successful run through postseason play with a 10-7 victory over Sonoma State on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Aquatic Center. With the win, CSUMB finished fifth at the WWPA Championships and 4-2 in postseason play.
The Otters were led by
Jackie Walters (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla HS) who scored a game-high three goals.
Amanda Jennings (Oakley, Calif./Freedom HS) had an impressive 20 saves.
It was a defensive struggle through the first quarter with only one combined score. Walters scored midway through the quarter to give CSUMB a 1-0 advantage. Jennings recorded eight saves.
Freshman
Sam Whitecotten (Roseville, Calif./Woodcreek HS) made yet another impact, scoring one of three unanswered Otter goals in the second. CSUMB led 4-0 at the break.
The teams traded three goals each in the third. CSUMB didn't allow SSU within less than two points from tying the contest. Walters scored her 70
th goal of the season in the fourth as the Otters completed the 10-7 win.
Otter senior
Julie Cooper (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore HS) was named to the All-WWPA Tournament second-team. Cooper scored six goals over the weekend.
