Senior Julie Cooper led the Otters with her two-goal performance versus UC Davis on Friday afternoon.
SEASIDE, CALIF.—The good fortune of sunny weather didn't translate into success in the pool for the Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team on Friday afternoon. CSUMB dropped a 13-5 decision to No. 18 UC Davis at The Otter Tank.
Julie Cooper (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore HS) led the Otters with a two-goal performance.
Paige Robinson (San Jose, Calif./Lynbrook HS) and
Amanda Jennings (Oakley, Calif./Freedom HS) combined for 13 saves.
The Aggies won the initial sprint and subsequently dashed out to a 6-0 advantage through just a quarter of action. Elsie Fullerton and Carmen Eggert each contributed two goals a piece in the quarter for UCD.
Cooper got the Otters on the board by converting a teardrop like goal midway through the second quarter to make the score 6-1. UC Davis responded with a goal of their own as the halftime score stood at 7-1.
The familiar duo of CSUMB seniors
Jackie Walters (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla HS) and Cooper would help win the third quarter. Each scored a goal while the defense played steady as the Otters outscored the Aggies 2-1.
UC Davis, the nation's No. 18 team would flex its muscle again in the fourth as they wrapped the bow on a 13-5 non-conference victory.
The Otters return to action Saturday morning as they begin play in the first-ever CCAA Tournament. CSUMB, seeded No.4 will take on No.5 Azusa Pacific. First sprint is scheduled for 11:30am.
