CSUMB celebrated the careers of seven seniors on Saturday afternoon.
SEASIDE, CALIF.—There was no shortage of thrills at the mini-tournament held at The Otter Tank on Saturday Afternoon. The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team played two hard fought games against evenly matched opponents.
CSUMB defeated Cal State East Bay 10-9 in a WWPA game before dropping a 10-9 decision to Concordia-Irvine. The Otters also celebrated Senior Day as they paid tribute to
Katie Hart(La Verne, Calif./Bonita HS),
Paige Robinson (San Jose, Calif./Lynbrook HS),
Kylie Fields (San Jose, Calif./Pioneer HS),
Julie Cooper (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore HS),
Alex Tyrrell (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore HS),
Christina Keller (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura HS) and
Jackie Walters (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla HS).
The Otters were led by two hot hands on the day as Walters scored seven times and Fields scored six goals.
Amanda Jennings came up with 14 big saves in the victory over CSUEB.
Game 1: CSUMB 10, CSUEB 9
In the WWPA each conference game has a playoff type atmosphere. Cooper made sure the Otters got off on the right foot with a goal just :16 into the contest.
With the teams trading goals late into the first quarter, there was yet another moment for CSUMB to make a key play.
This time it was Fields making the most of a short possession before the quarter's end by scoring a goal with :10 left, giving the Otters a 4-3 lead.
An evenly played second quarter resulted in a 6-5 Otter lead heading to the break. It appeared as though CSUMB would run away with the game in the third as a Walters goal put the Otters up 9-6.
CSUEB had an answer in the fourth but time ran out as CSUMB gained their second WWPA victory of the season.

The Eagles roster of just 10 players is a feisty group. Three unanswered CUI goals, including two from 4-11 Maria Quiroz put the Eagles ahead 4-2.
That's when the Otters' Cooper gave the team and crowd a jolt with a laser-like goal from 19 feet out. CSUMB would tie the score at 4-4 before the half.
The two teams played back and forth until CUI went on another run to make the score 9-7. Walters scored with 1:16 left to tie the game at 9-9 but CUI would answer with a goal of their own a minute later and the 10-9 victory.
