LOS ANGELES, CALIF.—The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team dropped a pair of non-conference games on Friday afternoon at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center on the campus of Loyola Marymount University. CSUMB fell to No. 11 Princeton 12-4 before dropping a difficult decision 6-5 to Whittier College.
The Otters were led in scoring by
Jackie Walters (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla HS) and
Julie Cooper (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore HS) who each scored three goals on the afternoon.
Paige Robinson (San Jose, Calif./Lynbrook HS) and
Amanda Jennings (Oakley, Calif./Freedom HS) combined to make 10 saves.
Game 1: No. 11 Princeton 12, CSUMB 4
The nation's No. 11 team got off to a sizzling start, scoring five times in the first quarter, while CSUMB scored just once.
CSUMB wouldn't allow Princeton to keep that pace as the Otter defense kept the Tigers to just seven goals over the remaining three quarters of play. The early lead was enough however as Princeton earned a 12-4 victory.
