Otters Break Out The Bats In 13-6 Win Over CSULA

Freshman Ty Morris went 3-for-4 with two doubles.

CSUMB records 15 hits with six being doubles to earn series split

BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team scored in six of its eight innings at-bat to earn a series split with Cal State LA. Saturday in a 13-6 series finale win. 
 
The Otters notched six doubles, coming within one of single season record set in Thursday's 17-10 series opener victory against CSULA.
 
Freshman Ty Morris (Royal Oaks, Calif./North Monterey HS) went 3-for-4 with two doubles.  Senior Danny Nelson (Morgan Hill, Calif./San Jose CC) went 3-for-6 with three runs and a RBI.  Juniors Brian Haggett (Hollister, Calif./Sacramento State) and Jason Merjano (San Ramon, Calif./Sierra College) each drove in three runs on two hits
 
Freshman Jeff Owen (Clovis, Calif./Clovis East HS) went five solid innings to earn his second win, giving up only three runs (two earned) and four hits. Junior Harold Zosel (Pleasanton, Calif./San Jose CC) extended his school record by picking up a CCAA leading eighth save after tossing three no-hit innings in relief.
 
The Otters never trailed in the game, taking a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning and adding another in the second. 
 
The Golden Eagles cut the Otters' lead to 4-3 in the in the fourth, scoring on four hits and one CSUMB error.
 
CSUMB answered by posting runs in the next four innings (3-3-2-1 on the scoreboard) to expand the cushion.
 
CSULA's David Arredondo took the loss after four innings, surrendering five runs on six hits. 
 
The Otters (18-18, 12-14 CCAA) take on the Gators of San Francisco (12-17, 9-13 CCAA) next weekend in their final split series of 2012.
