Fast Start Leads To Win Over UCSC

Otters earn home vicotry over Banana Slugs, 18-9 final.

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team earned a 18-9 victory over the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz at the Otter Tank. CSUMB's 18 goals counts for the most made in a single game for the 2012 season.

All 18 CSUMB players saw playing time against UCSC, with eight Otters tallying one or more goals.

CSUMB came out firing, with a season high seven goals in the first quarter. The Otters set a pace that UCSC was not able to keep up with.

The Otters posted their largest lead of the game after starting shortly after the second half of play, leading by nine points as they entering both the third and final quarter.

Junior Alex Tyrrell (Wildomar/Elsinore HS) threw a single game season-high seven assists, in addition to her three goals.

Senior Nikki Smart (Clovis/Buchanan HS) led the Otters in goals with six respectively.

All three Otter goalies saw playing time. Paige Robinson (San Jose/Lynbrook HS) led the way racking up seven saves in two quarters of playing time. Jennings added six, and Hart added another two to total 14 saves for the day.

Jennings threw her third assist of the season.

The Otters return to the Otter Tank Friday, March 23 to host WWPA opponent Sonoma State set for a 2 p.m. start time.
